What do you need to really enjoy it?

This November 7, the Playstation 5 Pro is released, a very powerful console that requires suitable equipment to take full advantage of it.

In our test of the Playstation 5 Pro available on Tech&Co, the observation is clear: despite its many qualities, Sony’s new console is “not made for everyone.” This is due to the need to be well equipped, particularly in terms of television.

Because the PS5 Pro benefits from several technical innovations, including “PSSR”, which makes it possible to reduce the displayed resolution without causing any impact on visual quality. Above all, this makes it possible to significantly improve the frame rate per second, and therefore exceed 60 IPS (frames per second) thanks to “VRR” technology.

To have all of this, you need a compatible television. Tech&Co offers you a selection of products for different budgets, even if this can quickly represent a significant additional financial effort.

LG EVO OLED C3

Available in several sizes, including the most common, 55 inches, the LG EVO OLED C3 is an excellent television for anyone who wants to be properly equipped for gaming. Beyond its connected functionalities, which allow you to have applications such as Twitch, Youtube or Netflix, the LG C3 has HDMI 2.1 on all of its ports and benefits from VRR compatibility to access 120Hz on compatible games.

The image quality is there thanks to the OLED panel – LG is a leader in this field – and the HDR is there with Dolby Vision. Compared to the next generation, the C4, this C3 version regularly available on promotion, turns out to be a way to access the best options in a video game for a relatively low price. Note, however, that you have to dig a little into the settings to deactivate a certain number of options, such as AI-enhanced fluidity management, which is not recommended in-game.

Samsung OLED S95D

If Samsung is better known for its rather financially accessible LED and QLED televisions, the South Korean manufacturer is present in the OLED segment with its televisions powered by artificial intelligence. Samsung nevertheless reiterated the presence of very good anti-reflective technology, and so far unrivaled in the industry.

Its main advantage, beyond having four HDMI 2.1 ports, is to have a powerful processor offering foolproof fluidity in the interface (under TizenOS) as well as in games. The improvements brought by the AI options can be partly retained to take advantage of the power of its console, and the HDR is one of the best on the market thanks to high colorimetric scores (97% of the space covered). Above all, it has an external box allowing the wires to be diverted, and therefore the TV to be fixed on a wall with a single, barely visible transparent wire.

The only drawback is that despite a higher price, Dolby Vision is not supported (there is only HDR10+). Again, several sizes are available from 55 inches.

Sony BRAVIA 8 OLED

It’s not because we talk less about its televisions that Sony isn’t competitive. Quite the contrary: the manufacturer of the Playstation 5 ensures full compatibility with its home console, and even more so with the PS5 Pro, by offering a vibrant OLED panel with support for HDR Dolby Vision and 120Hz VRR.

When you plug your console into the TV, the HDR automatically adjusts and it does it well. No need to go back into the settings to deactivate unnecessary improvements, everything is done smoothly and transparently. There are, however, some significant drawbacks. First, there are only two HDMI 2.1 ports (of the four available), and the BRAVIA 8 runs Google TV, and is less responsive than the operating systems of LG (WebOS) and Samsung (Tizen ).

Philips Ambilight OLED809

Less known than its competitors in the OLED sector, Philips is nevertheless highlighted for anyone wishing to enjoy a visual experience thanks to Ambilight. This LED strip, which reacts in real time to what is happening on the screen, therefore offers to color the wall where the television is mounted for astonishing viewing sensations. Even if the principle will not please everyone – in game, Ambilight can sometimes be annoying – it has the merit of being directly integrated into the screen, and does not require the purchase of an external bridge sold at a high price. gold by Philips.

For the rest, the account is there, in particular on the presence of VRR (and therefore 120Hz), Dolby Vision and HDMI 2.1, but only on two ports. Compared to its competitors, Philips had the good idea to offer a swivel stand and good integrated speakers. However, it remains Google TV for the connected part.

There is no shortage of offers when it comes to televisions, but if you want to be sure that you are best equipped to make the most of the PS5 Pro, OLED televisions remain the best solution, and therefore have a cost. The advantage is that they are regularly on promotion.
