It’s official! Senegal is preparing to welcome its first gas before the end of 2024. Better, the first export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTa) project will take place at the beginning of 2025. The announcement was made by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, Cheikh Niane, on the sidelines of the international petroleum exhibition and conference (Adipec) in the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi) and reported by L’Observateur.

For Cheikh Niane, this major project, called Grand Tortue Ahmeyim and operated by American Kosmos Energy, remains on schedule for a first gas extraction planned for this year.

In this project located astride Senegalese and Mauritanian territorial waters, the BP company holds 61% of the project, while Senegal and Mauritania will share 10% of gas revenues.

The first phase of the work saw an explosion in costs, around 60% of the initial investments.

Note that the extraction of the first cubic feet of liquefied natural gas has been postponed twice in six years,
