There are few manufacturer recalls regarding recreational vehicles. However, this is indeed the case of the latest operation set up by Volkswagen. In fact, the German brand had to remind the workshop of some of its Grand Californiavans on base Volkswagen Crafter as a precaution
This reminder, code name 76AFaims to verify sealing of the gas installationin particular the trunk where the bottles (two 13 kg) and the conduits take place. To tell the truth, it is not poor assembly or defective equipment that is the cause, unlike the majority of manufacturer recalls, but a verification/quality control issue at the end of the chain. In fact, the leak test of the gas installation was carried out using a defective equipment and that, therefore, the control is not valid and that possible leaks may not have been detected. Clearly, there is no guarantee that the gas system of the Volkswagen Grand California will be able to meet the quality and sealing requirements that such an installation requires.
Which models are affected?
This miss took place between the January 8, 2024 and August 6, 2024. All Grand Californias produced during this period are therefore affected. They have for VIN (serial number) e1*2007/46*1935* (SYMWE) to e1*2007/46*1953* (SYMVE). Volkswagen contact directly owners by mail, telling them what to do. The latter consists of make an appointment at a mechanic approved by the brand so that he can carry out a leak test ad hoc. If a leak is detected, it will of course be repaired. The intervention is expected to last about an hour and is entirely freewhether there is repair or not.
What to do in the meantime?
If you are affected by this recall or have any doubts, don't panic. While waiting to be reassured, it is entirely possible to use your Grand California. Just close gas bottles or, for the most anxious, withdraw of the vehicle. Be aware, however, that a gas leak is systematically odorous and is easily located. This is the second time that the Grand California is the subject of a recall, the first concerned the glass roof which could peel off.
The Renault Master also recalled
Another recall is in progress, concerning him, the Renault Master and more particularly certain examples produced in 2014 (e2*2007/46*0023, e2*2007/46*0024, e2*2007/46*0026, e2*2007/46*0028, e2*2007/46*0052, e2*2007/46*0053, e2* 2007/46*0054). In question, this time, the too close proximity between a fuel line and part of the electrical harness which can lead to friction and, ultimately, wear which can lead to a fuel leak and the start of fire.
