The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) has taken a significant stand against corruption in the beautiful game, by suspending two players from Mizoram who are currently playing with city-based club, Nongkiew Irat FC, in the exciting Premier League of Shillong. The association’s strong action comes following allegations surrounding match-fixing, a shadow threatening the integrity of football in the region.
Flavius Lalruakima and C Vanlalhriata have been identified as part of a larger group of 25 players under investigation by the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) for their questionable involvement in match manipulation.
In an official statement, the MFA said, “Today, we reaffirm our solidarity with our sister association, the Mizoram FA, and have therefore chosen to impose a ban on the same players in the jurisdiction of Meghalaya.” The association stressed that it recognizes the deleterious impact of match-fixing on the sport and has decided to uphold the decisions of the Mizoram Football Association, ensuring that all players facing sanctions will not participate in any league governed by the MFA.

This decisive move followed the heavy sanctions imposed by the Mizoram FA, which included the suspension of 25 players, three club officials and the dissolution of three clubs for periods varying from one year to a lifetime ban, depending on the seriousness of their offenses. These actions were triggered by an extensive investigation by law enforcement, which uncovered disturbing cases of corruption linked to match manipulation.
Interestingly, among the 25 players charged, seven had notable appearances in the Meghalaya League last season, amplifying the need for stringent monitoring.
The Meghalaya Football Association has underlined its commitment to establishing a strong framework to deter players from engaging in unethical practices, saying: “We aim to send a powerful message to all players: any involvement in illegal activities “Illegal activities will not be tolerated.
