The woman matched all five numbers in last Sunday's draw in the United States. But it was only a few days later that she realized she had just hit the jackpot.

A woman from Illinois (United States) won $1 million thanks to a lottery ticket she bought at the supermarket and completely forgot about, reports the New York Post.

This woman was shopping at a grocery store in Elmhurst, Illinois on October 20 when she decided on a whim to buy a lottery ticket. “While I was on my way to visit my aunt, I stopped quickly to do some shopping and, before leaving, I picked up a Lucky Day Lotto ticket,” the lucky lady told lottery officials.

She then put the ticket in her pocket and continued with her life, forgetting that she had just bought the ticket that would make her rich a few days later.

“I was in total shock”

The woman obtained all five numbers from last Sunday's draw across the Atlantic. But it was only a few days later that she realized she had just hit the jackpot: “A few days after the draw, I saw the ticket in my handbag and I opened my application lottery to scan my ticket and check if it was a winner,” she said.

“I immediately saw '$1,000,000' on the screen and was in total shock. I scanned the bill a second time to check, and when I saw the number again, I I immediately started crying.” As a first gift, the big winner will treat herself to a trip to Ireland.
