The re-election of Donald Trump as President of the United States is likely to have consequences far beyond America's borders. In Ukraine, residents are worried after his re-election.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reacted to Donald Trump's re-election as President of the United States of America. “People want confidence, freedom, they want a normal life. For us, it's a life without Russian aggression, with a strong America and allies gathered around President Donald Trump”, he said. The last meeting between the two men was a month and a half ago in New York. The newly elected President of the United States had made the war in Ukraine one of his campaign arguments, ensuring that he would end it in 24 hours without explaining how.

In kyiv, residents are concerned. They fear losing the financial support from the Americans which is essential to them in the fight against Russia. “It's terrifying for Ukraine, it will inevitably create uncertainty”, says a Ukrainian woman. On the front in the east of the country, soldiers want more weapons to fight against Russian forces.
