His story was adapted into a feature film and broadcast yesterday on the Lifetime channel.

“I’m afraid of doors now”, she told the Sun, Sunday June 9. On the occasion of the release of the film Gaslit by my husband: The Morgan Metzer story, which is inspired by the victim’s experience, Morgan Metzer, 36 years old and mother of twins, returned to the event which turned her life upside down.

The affair had gone around the world. A mother of twins found herself violently attacked and tied up outside, when New Year 2021 before being miraculously saved by the father of her children. But the hero turned out to be in reality the attacker of the young woman. After this traumatic event and this discovery, the victim “didn’t sleep for months afterwards”she explained in her story, which appeared in the columns of the British newspaper The Sun.

The intruder was disguised as “Batman”

Night was falling, when an intruder wearing a “Batman-looking” mask entered his victim’s room. “A lamp downstairs was lit behind him. I screamed so loud when I saw him. It was so painful […] Pretty soon he was on me.”she remembered.
Immediately, the attacker hit him with violent blows with a pistolt. In a state of total disbelief, the young woman was petrified. “At that moment I knew I was going to die”she said.

Beaten for around thirty minutes

Violated for almost half an hourthe attacker ended up strangling him. “It was the worst feeling in the world,” she exclaimed. It was impossible for him to put a face to the attacker, who had hidden behind a mask “which made him look like Batman, he even had his ears turned up a little”she detailed.

Tied up in the freezing air

Subsequently, the young woman was dragged half-naked outside into the freezing midnight air and before being tied up, taking care to take the victim’s phone with himin order to delete security camera footage present in the home of the young mother, who tried to stay awake in a final attempt to survive. A pillowcase hid his face bruised by the blows.

Saved by her husband?

Next to two o’clock after the incident, a man approached the victim’s home and freed her from her restraints. It was his ex-husband, Rodney Metzerwho then claimed to have come after being alerted by neighbors about a burglary at his ex-wife’s house. “Yet I told her I was at my parents’ house,” she observed. “So why come to the house?”. Extremely shocked by his ex-wife’s appearance, he alerts the emergency services. Overcome with immense suspicion, she accuses her ex-husband of being the author of the facts. “No one ever thought he was a bad person.” she confided.

The victim’s suspicions were confirmed during the judiciary process. Charged forr eight counts including kidnapping, assault and invasion of privacy, he pleaded guilty. If the video surveillance of the victim’s home was deleted, the investigators were able to get their hands on the cameras of a store where the attacker allegedly purchased the fasteners who allowed him to tie up his ex-wife behind his back. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that ex-husband secretly copied his ex-wife’s text messages and… took photos of her in the shower, without her knowledge.

Unexplained acts

Rodney Metzer has never explained why he attacked his ex-wife or what happened to the disguise he wore that evening. He was sentenced to 25 years from prison.

“In many cases of domestic violence, this type of conviction is exceptionalsaid Rachel Ashe, then an assistant prosecutor in Cherokee. He really thought he could get away with it.” The couple knew each other since the age of 14. Married, they had twins together, before divorcing. This sordid affair was adapted into a film which was broadcast yesterday on the Lifetime channel.
