Surprise ! Dugarry defends Mbappé

The former French world champion believes that Kylian Mbappé is not the only one responsible for the misfortunes he is experiencing in Madrid.

Kylian Mbappé is currently under attack from all sides because of his inconsistent performances with Real Madrid. His loss to Milan on Tuesday evening in the Champions League earned him criticism in Spain but also in and the United States. His former idol Thierry Henry particularly attacked him.

“Real took Mbappé at the worst time”

On CBS Sports, the former coach of the French Espoirs severely scratched the Bondynois by saying that he did not defend enough. An observation which also echoes the remarks of Karim Benzema, who suggested that his ex partner in Blue was not in his place in Madrid.

Fortunately, there are also some who have sought to clear him. Against all expectations, Christophe Dugarry was one of them. While he had often cut him in the past, the ex-French international sought to defend himself during his last intervention in the show Rothen s'igne on RMC Sport. “Real may have taken him at the worst time. Maybe there was no need to take it. They took him anyway, thinking his talent would be enough. Real were wrong about their faults and qualities. He has to learn a new position. He will have to redouble his efforts and desire. We can criticize him for several things, but he lacks players to highlight him like Kroos”he confided.

Ancelotti guilty of Mbappé's misfortunes?

He then attacked Carlo Ancelotti, guilty in his eyes of not using his star defector well: “This team is extremely poorly balanced. It's not made to serve your center forward. You have to get the ball as close to the surface as possible. He is not used in his best position. For me, the person responsible is Ancelotti. He must put Mbappé in his best position or take him out. He must find the solution. Ancelotti must take responsibility. It will take time for Mbappé to adapt to this position which is not his.”

The opinion is however not shared by Jérome Rothen. For the latter, Mbappé is solely responsible for what happens to him. “ He is the flagship recruit of the summer. Real won everything last season, with a team and players who showed their guts on the pitch. Unfortunately, I feel like all of that has disappeared. Kylian crystallizes it all. His presence foils some, others have changed position or no longer play. He is not necessarily responsible for that, he does not make the team. But he’s not there.”
