The permanent bureau of the Committee sent the request on Sunday, June 9, to the Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue of provinces and cities, after the northern region experienced heavy rains in recent days.

Hanoi experienced widespread downpours with average rainfall of 30 to 80 mm. This figure rose to 100-140 mm in the districts of Hoang Mai, Long Bien and Thanh Tri district.

These heavy rains caused flooding in several neighborhoods of the capital from the night of June 8 to the early morning of June 9, notably in Nguyên Van Cu, Truong Dinh streets and at the Phan Bôi Châu-Ly Thuong Kiêt intersection.

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage LLC monitors the main pumping stations to lower the water level and prepares for interventions in the event of persistent downpours.

Severe flooding was also recorded in the port city of Hai Phong and in the provinces of Dien Bien and Quang Ninh early in the morning of June 9.

Torrential rains in the coastal town of Hai Phong also coincided with high tides, causing the most severe flooding since the start of the rainy season.

In mountainous areas of Dien Bien and Quang Ninh provinces, warnings have been issued about flash floods and landslides.

Heavy flooding also led to traffic jams and damage to crops in these localities.

The National Hydrometeorological Forecast Center said the North will continue to experience heavy rains, sometimes torrential rains of up to 80mm and even up to 150mm.

The area could experience thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds. It also faces a risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

In order to respond proactively and minimize damage, the National Steering Committee asked provinces and cities to closely monitor warning and forecast bulletins, regularly inform and guide authorities and residents at all times. levels.

Localities must prepare forces on site to come to the aid of populations if necessary.

The northern region should also deploy security forces to inspect and examine residential areas along rivers, streams and low-lying areas with high risks of flooding, flash floods and landslides. They will have to evacuate people if necessary.

Localities request specialized agencies to coordinate with local television stations and other information and communication agencies, especially at the local level, to educate the population on how to deal with rain as well as thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

A number of reference documents have been developed by the National Steering Committee and published on the website phongchongthientai.mard.gov.vn/Pages/Tai-lieu-truyen-thong-pctt.aspx.

At the same time, cities and provinces are responsible for frequently and closely monitoring weather developments and natural disasters, summarizing reports and sending them to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
