European elections: Is Manon Aubry related to Martine Aubry?

Manon Aubry is the head of the list of La France Insoumise in the European elections, which take place this Sunday June 9. The opportunity to wonder if the 34-year-old young woman is related to another political figure, Martine Aubry.

No surprise. For the European elections, France Insoumise applies the same recipe in 2024 as in 2019, by naming Manon Aubry head of the list. Five years ago, the list she led obtained a little more than 6% of the votes cast, allowing six deputies to sit in the European Parliament. A result which had been described as “disappointing” by Manon Aubry herself, on the evening of the results. This score, however, did not discourage the party, which decided to maintain its confidence in him.

For what results? La France Insoumise will be set around 8 p.m. this Sunday, June 9. The objective is certainly to do better, even without union. As a reminder, there will not be a common list for the left in the European elections. Jean-Luc Mélenchon called for it but the proposal was rejected by the socialists, ecologists and communists.

Manon Aubry, her mother is a political figure

It’s up to Manon Aubry to line up wide to obtain a better score than five years ago. For example, she will have to convince Socialist Party voters, party which will be represented by Raphaël Glucksmann, again as in 2019. The latter should receive public support from a namesake of Manon Aubry. Indeed, in 2019, Martine Aubry appeared alongside Léa Salamé’s companion.

We are talking about homonymy, and nothing else: Manon and Martine Aubry are not related. On June 3, teased on the subject by Philippe Caverivière who suggested that she greet her “mom”, Martine Aubry, Manon Aubry had, with a smile, clarified that the mayor of Lille was not her mother. The one who represents La France Insoumise can, however, count on strong parental support in her political quest: Catherine Poggi-Aubry, his mother, is a member of the party, and was in the list for the 2019 European elections, however in a position that was almost ineligible. She’s not part of the adventure this time, in 2024
