Fabio Cannavaro, 50, is already no longer the coach of Udinese, where he took over from Gabriele Cioffi at the end of April, when the Friuli club occupied seventeenth place in Serie A.
World champion in 2006 and Ballon d’Or the same year, Cannavaro did not see his contract extended.
The club where ex-Diable Rouge Christian Kabasele plays announced this on Saturday in a three-line press release on its website (https://tinyurl.com/33d3h2e3).
The tough former defender of Napoli (68 matches, 1 assist), Parma (290 matches, 6 goals, 2 assists), Inter Milan (74 matches, 3 goals, 2 assists), Juventus Turin (128 matches, 7 goals, 1 assist), Real Madrid (118 matches, 1 assist), and of course Squadra Azzurra (136 caps, 2 goals), only led the team for six matches, so that the club was in great danger of relegation.
Only one defeat in six matches!
He only lost once, 1-2 on April 25 against AS Roma on his debut.
Under Cannavaro’s leadership, Udinese ultimately achieved three draws and won two, thus ensuring their stay in Serie A and finishing in fifteenth place in the championship.
Cannavaro coached Benevento in Serie B for a few months last season
But he mainly worked in Asia as a coach.
In China, he coached Guangzhou Evergrande, Tianjin and the national team, winning the Cup (2018) and championship (2019) with Guangzhou Evergrande.
In Saudi Arabia, he coached Al-Nassr.
His successor at Udinese is not yet known.
