Ceh completed a throw of 68m08 to win his first European title after a world champion title in 2022. The Austrian captured the silver medal in 67m70. The young Lithuanian Mykolas Alekna, who recently set the world record in the discus throw, had to settle for bronze in 67m48, very far from his world record (74m35).
Alekna was crowned European champion two years ago in Munich, at just 19 years old.
The Netherlands achieved the double in the women’s shot put with the gold medal for Jessica Schilder (18m77) who renews her title won in Munich in 2022. Her compatriot Jorinde van Klinken, bronze medalist in 2022, has this once won silver (18m67). German Yemisi Ogunleye completed the podium with a throw of 18m62.
Over 5,000 m, the European title went to Italian Nadia Battocletti who set a new championship record in 14:35.29. Norwegian Karoline Grovdal took second place in 14:38.62 ahead of Spaniard Marta Garcia, 3rd in 14:44.04.
