Ivory Prize 2024 – Hurry to the left! A free forum for the Quebec left on the move

The Haitian writer Gary Victor, with his novel “Adrien’s Violin”, is one of the 5 finalists competing for the Ivoire Prize for African Literature of Francophone Expression.

The Akwaba Culture association has the honor to inform book professionals and the public that the jury responsible for selecting the finalist works for the Ivoire Prize for African Literature of Francophone Expression 2024 has completed its work.

After a tailor-made selection by a jury of experts, five novels stand out: Les Femmes de Bidibidi by Charline Effah; Misunderstandings of Azza Filali; Zakoa by Hary Rabary; Âmes tembée by Marie-George Thébia and Le Violon d’Adrien by Gary Victor.

Seventy-six works from sixteen countries were submitted. The winner will be revealed on October 18, 2024, and the award ceremony for the Prize, worth 3,000 euros, will take place in Abidjan on November 23, 2024.

Born in Port au Prince in 1958, Gary Victor is today one of the most widely read novelists in Haiti. He is a screenwriter for radio, cinema and television. In 2001, he received the medal of the Order of Knight of Merit of the French Republic for the value of his work published in French in Haiti.

Created in 2008 by Akwaba Culture, an association under Ivorian law, the Ivory Prize for African Literature of Francophone Expression is placed under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie of Côte d’Ivoire, the French embassy in Abidjan, from the Côte d’Ivoire Foundation.
