Several fire trucks arrived in the Chartrons district this Monday early in the evening, at 8:10 p.m. The fire broke out in the first basement of the parking lot of a small two-story residence. Thick smoke was coming from the building.
Inside, five vehicles were completely destroyed, and twenty others damaged by smoke and ashes. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the rest of the residence using two hoses.
During the intervention, the 54 residents present on the floors were evacuated.
The town hall has issued an order prohibiting access to the car park as well as to nine apartments located adjacent to it, which must be subject to a structural diagnosis by a competent body. Their six occupants had to be rehoused, four by the Bordeaux social action center and the two others on their own.
The police were on site and an investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the incident.
