The affair allegedly took place around 4 a.m. in the village of Salluit, which has around 1,600 inhabitants.
At least one officer reportedly discharged his firearm. One person was reportedly fatally injured, while another was seriously injured.
We currently do not know the origin of the intervention of the Nunavik police department or what would have pushed the police officer to pull the trigger.
The Office of Independent Investigations announced that it would look into the work of the police officers, to find out whether they acted according to the rules of the art.
On social networks, the tragedy seems to have triggered strong anger among residents of the community, the second most northerly in the province.

Several shared a video that allegedly captured the precise moment a police officer allegedly fired.
The 12-second sequence would take place in the middle of the street. Two explosions are heard, while an individual collapses to the ground.
This is a new tragedy for the village of Salluit.
In September, a highly intoxicated teenager aged just 17 allegedly beat his own mother to death.
The community was also shaken last January when a 4-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by wild dogs.
