so, how is Pierre Garnier’s album?

Record a full album in just 4 months. We don’t know if this is a speed record, but the least we can say is that the winner of Star Academy (last February) didn’t hang around. One hundred and twenty days later, here he is again with Each secondan album of 14 tracks (including 12 originals) written at the same time as Pierre Garnier was performing part of the Star Academy tour, responding to numerous promotional requests and releasing the music video for We know, his new single. A superhuman pace of work which must not have left the Frenchman much time to sleep. Was it worth the wait?

A single locomotive

Before Each secondthere was obviously Those we were, the record-breaking single (50 million digital streams) and which incidentally became the best debut of all time on Spotify. With such scores, Garnier could therefore hope that fans would be there for the record (which also includes three versions of the title).

In detail, on this first album we obviously find the biggest hit, but also We know, written to address the crucial subject of mental health among young people, but also 10 other new songs. No big surprise or big disappointment: it’s still pure Pierre Garnier. Same scratchy voice, same acoustic piano-guitar combo reminiscent of idols Ed Sheeran and Vianney, and same authenticity in the writing of the lyrics, as on the opening title How to do where Garnier talks about the difficulty of expressing one’s feelings. The YouTube comments on the said song speak for themselves: the fans agree.

A record about doubts

At the question Each second is it a record with choruses, the answer is yes. Despite the short time for recording, Pierre Garnier achieved this strange feat of placing several songs on the radio. We think in particular of The words or Every second, and even The horizon, with its gospel choirs, ends up staying in the lead. Special mention in the title On breakwhere the musician confides in his doubts: “ Sometimes I hurt / I’m not normal / I see my life slipping away / It fails me“. Considering the speed of his success, we can understand that the Frenchman, only 22 years old (like Billie Eilish), still asks himself a lot of questions. The only slight disappointment on the listener’s side, perhaps: the title Not a tear with Sofiane Pamart, the only featuring of the album, a little below expectations, because it was too conventional.

In the end, with his songs about friendship, love or solitude, Pierre Garnier delivers a universal record that should speak to everyone in a mirror effect. Written with the same team as for Those we were (including Joseph Kamel), the record will undoubtedly punctuate part of the summer and, like the last title, promises the Frenchman an “all the better” future.
