Jessy Fouque displays a broad smile. Moreover, she admits that she sometimes still has difficulty realizing that she runs her shop in Loudéac (Côtes-d'Armor).

on library “The Neverending Story” has just celebrated its first candle. The 20th October 2023she launched her activity by settling in 22 rue de Cadélac. His own bookselling business after years of experience in the field.

A great first year for this business

“We received a great welcome, with loyal customers. But we also have a regular flow of new customers who discover the store,” says the merchant who does not hide that, ideally, we should make a little more turnover.

“There are sometimes days when it’s very quiet in Loudéac too… But for a first year, it’s already great.”

Great to the point of being able to hire an employee part-time. Arrived in November 2023, François Chobaux accompanies him for part of the week.

This makes it possible to better advise customers, organize events, manage orders, store organization, and the invisible side of the activity, such as accounting.

She can also count on the support of her companion Mickaël Cann in terms of communication, helping hands and DIY.

Well spotted

“We also try to participate in several book fairs. To make ourselves known and support these initiatives,” rejoices Jessy.

Another satisfaction: “The store has been well identified by communities, media centers and libraries. And some teachers who place orders.”

I am going to participate in the Young People in Bookstores program, to introduce middle school students to the book chain, and they will come and visit the store.

Young people will also have a voucher to use in the store.

To celebrate the event, she proposed a special day birthday, Saturday October 26, 2024with activities and workshops.

Customers can also try their luck in a draw to win vouchers of €20.30 and €50.

Entertainment

“We have done a lot of things to make people take ownership of the bookstore. Let it be a regular occurrence to come here,” emphasizes Jessy. “Now we have to be able to sustain the activity.”

To do this, the bookseller plans to continue organizing events at the store.

I will rework on the activities and meetings proposed. Maybe a little less often, but more qualitative. And then do it based on what people like.

This is for example the case of board game evenings where you can come and test the games while having fun with other aficionados.

For a good cause

As in 2023, Jessy Fouque participates in the “Give it to read” operation.

Until November 20, 2024we invite customers to add a children's book to their purchases.

This is placed in a box which the volunteers will then come and collect. They will benefit children or adolescents who have difficulty accessing reading.
