On November 1, 2024, the spectator of a Kaunas-Monaco match caused a disturbance during a EuroLeague match at the Zalgirio Arena, Lithuania.
Big scare in the middle of the match. On Friday, while the Kaunas and Monaco basketball teams faced each other, a spectator suffered a heart attack. For 20 minutes, the entire arena remained suspended from resuscitation attempts by emergency services, reports local media LRT.
Cardiac discomfort in the stands
During the Euroleague match, one of the spectators suddenly collapsed on the second floor of the stands. Rescue teams immediately rushed to his side to resuscitate him. They tried to resuscitate him for 20 minutesbarely hidden by black sheets hastily installed around the stage.
The other spectators, stunned and frightened, witnessed their intervention. Some cried, add our Lithuanian colleagues, who describe an arena more tense than ever.
The victim out of danger
Eventually, the man was resuscitated and taken to hospital. He was able to be stabilized in the hours that followed. Rapid support of the victim played a lot, reports first aid instructor Giedrė Žutautė to our colleagues.
“If you see someone fainting, you should act and provide first aid immediately.” Before adding: “If a person collapses in front of you, every minute their chance of survival decreases by 10%. And for that, immediate action must be taken.”
The match finally resumed, and the Lithuanian team emerged victorious (63-62).
