LEGO Marvel has a long history of surprising pricing choices, and an upcoming price has us looking at some 2025 sets with trepidation.
With official prices now confirmed for a trio of LEGO Marvel Among the Captain America: Brave New World sets, there is one in particular that stands out – and not in a good way. 76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle is priced at £49.99 / $54.99 / €54.99 for just 223 pieces. Sure, that includes a large Red Hulk figure, but that doesn’t really justify such a high price for what you get.
Seeing as 76232 The Hoopty and 76281 X-Men Looking ahead to 2025, it makes us nervous about some releases in particular.
For example, 76316 Galactus vs. The Fantastic Four is scheduled for release in April, with a reported price of $54.99 for 384 pieces. While it’s not as outrageous as 76292 Captain America’s Battle with Red Hulk, it’s pretty close. Looking at similarly priced sets in other licensed themes, like LEGO Star Wars 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV and LEGO Disney 43217 ‘Up’ House?, you get a lot more for the same budget.
In the case of 76316 Galactus vs The Fantastic Four, this is the only box set so far that is expected to accompany the upcoming Fantastic Four release. 76292 Captain America’s Battle Against Red Hulk, it will feature a larger character in the form of Galactus. Of course, Galactus is a different scale than Red Hulk, but the similar price and only slightly higher part count could mean the 2025 set could follow the same model.
Alternatively – and hopefully – Galactus will only be represented in part, perhaps by a brick head or hand. This would be the most accurate way to depict a creature on the scale of Galactus, capable of devouring worlds, but, even then, the 384 pieces don’t seem large enough to do justice to such a concept.
Indeed, the trend in LEGO Marvel overvaluing sets that are ultimately disappointing does not bode well for the 2025 set, or for the theme in general. The trend dates through 2016 and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Mid-range sets in other themes, even licensed ones like LEGO Star Wars, typically feature interactive play features and at least one enticing minifigure – features that are missing from revealed LEGO Marvel sets.
Of course, we’ll reserve judgment until we’ve actually seen the LEGO Marvel 2025 sets – but perhaps that’s a sign to measure expectations when it comes to some high-priced sets and low number of parts.

I write about all the best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win a little, you lose a little.
