In court, the accused admitted to having killed the young woman, but pleaded unconsciousness, claiming to have been under the influence of cocaine at the time of the events. According to her version, “Fatoum” went to her home located in the Ennejma district. When he woke up, he discovered the young woman's lifeless body, lying in a pool of blood. Panicked, he allegedly tried to conceal his crime by mutilating the body and abandoning it in the victim's car before fleeing.
The investigation revealed that HW had transported the body near Gzenaya in an attempt to cremate it. It was the charred remains that were finally discovered by a passerby, thus putting investigators on the trail of the murderer. After the arrest of several suspects, it was finally in Nador that HW was apprehended by the police.
