Bol.com: ‘It is possible that customer data was stolen during the AddComm attack’

Bol.com customer data may have been stolen during the ransomware attack launched against AddComm in the first half of May. This is what the web store confirms in a press release published on its site. Bol.com stresses that it is not entirely certain that data was actually stolen, but that it still chooses to inform its customers.

The AddComm marketing agency sends letters to clients of other companies, institutions and authorities. Between May 5 and 17, it was the victim of a ransomware attack, during which data was stolen. Names, addresses, customer and order numbers, as well as the outstanding amount of consumer orders were stolen. For professional buyers, this concerns the name and company name, site address and VAT number.

‘No indication of abuse’

Bol.com now says that some of its customers may also have been affected, as their data was at AddComm at the time. As mentioned, the company is not completely sure about this. Potentially affected customers will be informed by email. Bol.com further asserts that there is currently no indication that any data has been or is being misused.

Previously, several other (Dutch) companies using AddComm’s services had announced that customer data had been stolen. These include, for example, the energy firm Eneco, Waterbedrijf Groningen and possibly the bank ABN Amro. AddComm states that it uses all possible means to prevent the distribution of stolen customer data.
