During the night from Sunday to Monday, a piece of ceiling fell on the bed of a young woman who had just given birth in the maternity ward of the Pellegrin hospital in Bordeaux. She was not injured.
On the night of Sunday October 27 to Monday October 28, a piece of ceiling collapsed above the bed of a woman who had just given birth in the maternity ward of the Pellegrin hospital in Bordeaux, indicates France blue.
Although the young mother emerged unscathed from the incident, this event recalls a previous ceiling collapse last September, this time in the establishment's emergency room.
The Sud and CGT unions of the Bordeaux University Hospital emphasize that these incidents illustrate the persistent problem of water infiltration within the hospital. “The incident occurred on the second floor, in the north wing of the maternity ward”says Julien Dulou, representative of Sud Santé Sociaux.
“The patient was resting after a complicated birth when, in the middle of the night, part of the ceiling collapsed on her. Fortunately, neither she nor a child were under the debris. It was a cardboard slab, damaged by moisture, which disintegrated, leaving a gaping hole and spilling water all over the room.”
Personnel affected by this incident
The staff is deeply affected, confides Thomas Rouzerol, caregiver and CGT union representative, who deplores the dilapidated state of the premises: “This type of incident is not new, and despite our numerous alerts concerning water infiltration, nothing has changed. The mother, who normally celebrated a birth, risks having bitter memories of her stay in the hospital .”
Indeed, water leak problems at Pellegrin hospital are frequent. In addition to this incident in the maternity ward, part of the metal ceiling collapsed in September in an emergency room. “Adult emergency services are in critical condition, completely overwhelmed”explains Julien Dulou before adding: “As soon as it rains, leaks multiply. Our goal is not to discredit the hospital, but to ask that patients and staff operate in safe conditions.”
Contacted Tuesday morning by our colleagues, the management of the Bordeaux University Hospital has not yet responded to the questions asked on these problems.
