After the flood which damaged the municipal cemetery on October 17, All Saints' Day 2024 had a special flavor, in Lanteuil, in Corrèze.
Two weeks after the flood which ravaged the cemetery of the Corrèze commune, and a wall collapsed under the force of the flooded Vianne, the Lanteuil cemetery seemed surprisingly alive, this Friday, November 1, for All Saints' Day.
The chrysanthemums and pansies had been placed at the foot of the tombs, the vaults opened by the force of the devastating wave were sealed again, the traces of mud largely erased. A plaque on the wrong vault
The traces of the flood could only be seen in the details. “We found a plaque dedicated “to our sister-in-law”. But there is no sister-in-law resting in this vault,” said a woman who came to pray this Friday, November 1st. A mistake during cleaning certainly.

After the flood, this family does what is necessary to clean up everything. Small white and gray pebbles were placed at the foot of the stele. This attention to the deceased illustrates a reappropriation of the place. “The flowers bring some color back to the cemetery”
“All Saints’ Day and all these flowers bring some color back to the cemetery. The media coverage of the flood also made families react. We saw people that we were not used to seeing in the cemetery, coming to tend their graves,” confides Alain Vauzour, first deputy of the commune, who also came to pay their respects on All Saints’ Day.

For its part, the municipality took care to restore the entrance to the site, as well as the garden of remembrance. “We will have to carry out work on the two walls that collapsed. The one located near the castle will have to be redone identically. Consideration is underway regarding the other wall of the cemetery.” As a reminder, after the flood of October 17, the municipality drafted a request for recognition of the state of natural disaster.
