Absent from the Ballon d'Or ceremony on Monday, Real Madrid continues to make the news.
It was not an official statement, but it had the desired effect: placing the
Real Madrid at the center of attention. On Monday, the White House delegation decided to snub the France Football Ballon d'Or ceremony, before leaking an unequivocal message.
A Real source told Okdiario: “Congratulations to Rodri. But UEFA and France Football insulted Real Madrid. If the award criteria do not designate Vinicius as the winner, these same criteria must designate (Dani) Carvajal as the winner. Since this was not the case, it is obvious that they do not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid will not go where it is not respected”.
Why were Bellingham and Mbappé forgotten by Real Madrid?
If this communication has obviously fueled debates on the lack of elegance of Real Madrid, it also raises questions through the content of its remarks. Accustomed to “choosing” a player for this prestigious award, Real mentioned two names: Vinicius, who was therefore the big favorite, but also Dani Carvajal.
Oddly enough, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé were not listed. The Englishman, however, had the legitimacy to claim the Ballon d'Or, too, since he finished on the podium just behind Vinicius, and ahead of his teammate Carvajal, fourth. Sixth, Kylian Mbappé was snubbed even though he has the status of a flagship recruit for the club. Real's communication has definitely not finished spilling ink…
