Béchar: Attacks are increasing on the electricity network

The management of the Béchar electricity and gas distribution company reports, in a press release sent to our editorial staff, direct damage to its electricity and natural gas networks. It has identified 52 cases of damage to its structures since the start of 2024 to date.

According to the communications officer at this department, 39 direct violations were noted on the natural gas network and 13 cases on the electricity distribution network. A situation, adds the press release, which did not fail to cause temporary interruptions in the supply of natural gas to the company’s subscribers, generating discontent in its wake.

According to the Sonelgaz Ouest management, this damage to structures is caused by public works companies operating on public roads, but without being previously authorized by the services concerned. The ditch digging work is carried out without any coordination or consultation between the Sonelgaz administration and public organizations issuing service orders to contractors to begin the work.

The same management recalls that during the year 2024 it recorded a total number of 785 cases of unauthorized individual or collective construction, encroaching on both the natural gas network and the electrical energy network.

Legal action was reportedly taken against these violations. The regional management of Sonelgaz deplores, however, the lack of consultation between the companies involved and the administrations which issue service orders to begin work on public roads.
