Wednesday October 30 in the middle of the day, a fire in the old town of Annecy left one person dead and several residents of the building affected.
Around 1 p.m., the Haute-Savoie fire brigade was alerted to a fire near the Quai de l'Île. The disaster described as “virulent” by the Haute-Savoie prefecture spreads in a four-story residential building. Unfortunately, the lifeless body of a woman was discovered inside the building, in an apartment on 3e floor from which the fire started, according to our colleagues from Dauphiné released.
At the height of the event, around fifty firefighters equipped with eight hoses tried to contain the fire. In total, three ton pump vans, three large ladders and the chain of command of the Haut-Savoie firefighters, supported by a drone remote pilot, were mobilized. Rescue and clearance resources were also deployed to maintain the weakened structure of the building.
Annecy: a judicial investigation opened to determine the causes of the fire
The Annecy public prosecutor's office has opened a judicial investigation, entrusted to the departmental direction of the national police of Haute-Savoie, to determine the origin of the fire.
Several apartments as well as a surface area of approximately 100 m2 roof were destroyed by this fire. Some residents lost everything. Nevertheless, “effective emergency response” to permission “to avoid uncontrolled spread of fire within the block of old dwellings”ensures the prefecture of Haute-Savoie.
For its part, the City of Annecy opened the Quai Jules Philippe school during the afternoon to welcome the victims, following the evacuation of the entire residential block.
