Wednesday October 30, in the morning, a walker noticed the presence of corpses of wild boars, on Grandville beach, in Hillion, Wednesday October 30, 2024, Ouest- has learned. Four specimens were found by the gendarmerie, “including one in an advanced state of decomposition”, specifies the mayor of Hillion, Annie Guennou.

The French Biodiversity Office was on site

After the arrival of the gendarmerie, the French Biodiversity Office intervened during the day. After recovering the first three bodies, the agents ended up spotting a fourth, located on another beach, that of Bon Abri, in Hillion. This one had obviously been in the mudflat for many days.

“The animals were removed for an autopsy and the analyzes usually carried out,” indicates the public prosecutor, Nicolas Heitz. Observation of the bodies did not allow us to find any clues to determine the causes of death: in particular, no traces of bullets were discovered. »

A flagrant investigation was entrusted by the prosecution to the OFB and the Pléneuf-Val-André gendarmerie brigade. A notice was also made to the regional environmental attack center within the public prosecutor's office.

A beach affected by green algae

Grandville beach is regularly affected by massive deposits of green algae. Ulvas are still present at this time of year and the city services collect them regularly.

In this context, eyes turn to green algae with each incident. Even recently, in October 2023, a dead wild boar was found in this area. Environmental activists then blamed the fumes of hydrogen sulphide, resulting from the decomposition of green algae. But, according to the autopsy, the animal did not die because of this gas, but from an “infectious cause”. The public prosecutor then closed the case without further action.

Environmental activist André Ollivro asks to meet the prefect

For the moment, the mayor of Hillion warns against “any hasty conclusions” and “waits for the results of the analyses”.

On the other hand, André Ollivro: “This Grandville beach is currently a hotbed of marine infection, but what are the authorities of all kinds doing about this health scandal? »

The president of the association Defense of Victims of Green Tides announces that he will write to the Prefect to ask for “an interview” and “more information on the results of analyzes of previous autopsies” of wild boar corpses. “We will call for mobilization to be received,” he warns.
