Trevor Zegras: an imminent trade?

It appears the Anaheim Ducks have reached their limit with forward Trevor Zegras.

In the latest edition of his podcast, Daily Faceoff hockey expert Frank Seravalli indicated that there were a lot of “points of friction” between the California organization and the 23-year-old.

He suggests that several members of the Ducks’ staff believe that Zegras will not be able to add more dimensions to his game in the future.

The American is also reportedly very upset that the organization traded defenseman Jamie Drysdale to the Philadelphia Flyers last January. The guard was his best friend on the team and his roommate.

Additionally, Zegras is one of the players the Ducks strongly encouraged to move to Florida to train this past offseason. The National Hockey League (NHL) fined the team $50,000 in this case.

The emergence of center players Mason McTavish, Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlsson could also convince general manager Pat Verbeek to use Zegras as a bargaining chip to fill a need in his team.

Still according to Seravalli, an exchange would be desired by both camps.

Zegras has been at the center of trade rumors for quite some time now, particularly due to difficult contract negotiations with the Ducks in the fall. He missed the majority of training camp, before signing a three-year, $17.25 million contract.

The ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft is coming off a very difficult season. He was limited to 15 points, including six goals, in 31 games due to chronic groin problems and a broken ankle.
