It was a busy day for the Saguenay firefighters on Saturday. By midday, they had already had to fight two residential fires which caused no injuries.
The first occurred on rue Sainte-Gertrude, near Mont Jacob in Jonquière, while the second occurred on rue Chabanel in Chicoutimi.
On the Jonquière side, three barracks from the Saguenay Fire Safety Service were called to the scene. Two residences were affected.

Several citizens observed the scene.
Firefighters were able to contain any spread.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had broken out in both buildings. Our first teams focused their efforts on the spread to the second building to contain it as much as possible. But the first building was already well underway, explained the division head, Carl Boudreault.

The fire started in the kitchen of this residence on rue Chabanel.

According to witnesses, the fire started around 11:45 a.m.
On Chabanel Street
Concerning the fire that occurred in Chicoutimi on Chabanel Street, the operations chief of the Chicoutimi firefighters, Nicolas Guay, revealed that it started in the kitchen of the residence. It was quickly extinguished.

The Saguenay police officers came to support the firefighters to block traffic on Chabanel Street.

Investigators will be on site Monday.
