DISCOVER THE COMPANIONS OF THE France FOOTBALL TEAM PLAYERS
After more than 14 years in football, Raphaël Varane has made the decision to end his career as a football player. The central defender has spoken on several occasions about his mental health and the pressure of high level. At 31, he will now be able to fully concentrate on his family life, with his wife Camille Tytgat. But who is she?
Meeting his future wife
Raphaël Varane was born on April 25, 1993 in Lille. After starting rugby, he instead played football at AS Hellemmes in French Flanders. At nine years old, he is spotted by the Racing Club de Lensthe current team of Austrian Kevin Danso who suffers from a heart problem. Raphaël Varane completes three trials before joining the Northerners’ training center.
He will be upgraded in all the youth teams. It was when he arrived at high school that he met Camille Tytgat. Love at first sight is immediate and the young woman doesn’t know it yet, but she will follow the adventures of a future world champion who will finish 7th in the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
A bold move to Madrid
At just 17 years old, Raphaël Varane made his professional debut with his training club, during a Ligue 1 match against Montpellier. Fast, tall and strong, he immediately established himself as one of the greatest talents in the French championship. So much so that Zinédine Zidane himself will travel to try to convince the central defender to sign for Real Madrid.
At that time, Camille Tytgat finishes high school and begins law studies. But the latter will decide to follow Raphaël Varane to Spain. Manchester United were also on the docket, but the player would sign for England later in his career. This choice seems bold at the time, but will ultimately pay off.
A quiet married life
The couple will therefore settle in Spain. While Raphaël Varane begins to find a place within the Madrid squad, joins the French team and even wins his first Champions League, he is especially going to get married. On June 20, 2015, the couple seals their union in Le Touquet. Camille Tytgat is generally quite discreet about her life as a couple with one of the best French players of the last decade.
She gives very few interviews, but frequently travels to the aisles of the Stade de France to attend her husband’s matches with the Blues. In April 2023, the couple gave birth to their third child. Camille Tytgat is also not present on social networks, unlike Varane who is followed by more than 23 million people.
The end of Raphaël Varane’s career
After the 2022 World Cup, Raphaël Varane had already announced his international retirement with the France team. World champion, he was one of the pillars of the Deschamps era. After 3 mixed seasons at Manchester United and when he could have joined Inter Milan, the central defender preferred to sign in Italy, at Como, freshly promoted to Serie A.
But in his first match with the Lombard club, Varane was injured. Which probably accelerated his choice to hang up his crampons for good. He will have won 21 titles in his career, including 4 Champions Leagues and will even have been in the typical team of the year in 2018. He will be able to stay by his wife’s side and her 3 children full time.
