The Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, on Thursday magnified the decision of the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to establish a cleaning day, the first edition of which is scheduled for Saturday in Dakar and in inside the country, with the aim of getting the Senegalese to invest in ”cleaning up” their ”places of life”.

”This Saturday, June 1, is to launch this new approach which will be sustainable. It won’t just be one day, but it will be much longer, every month mobilizing the Senegalese for human investment to clean up our living spaces,” he declared.

The minister also explained that this national cleaning day aims to launch a broader campaign in accordance with the wishes of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.

”The President of the Republic has decided from now on, each month, that a day will be established, a day of cleaning throughout the country, in towns and villages, to get the Senegalese to take action the phenomenon of sanitation and the development of our territories, or the care of our places of life,” he explained.

According to him, this national clean-up day focused on the issue of flooding is also part of this government strategy aimed at encouraging populations to take ownership of clean-up days.

”We are heading towards a winter period which according to data from Anacim [Agence nationale de l’aviation civile et de la météorologie] will be rainy. It is not just a one-off action, it is, as part of this government strategy, about initiating the process of appropriation of cleaning days,” he said.

He recalled that the first edition of this human investment day is centered around the issue of flooding

”We want to get the community to come out and take ownership [cette initiative] and can provide solutions to the phenomenon of flooding,” he added.
