The Caucus of Central Cities of the Union of Municipalities of Quebec (UMQ) met in Quebec in the presence of the Minister of Public Security (MSP), François Bonnardel. Members pleaded for central cities, which have the necessary resources, to be able to assume full responsibility for fire services on their territory and offer them to interested neighboring municipalities. They also insisted on the importance of adjusting financial aid programs, which currently disadvantage central cities. However, they welcomed the government's intention to review the structure of the fire services in order to ensure equitable and quality services for all citizens.

“I am satisfied with the exchange with the Minister of Public Security François Bonnardel, deputy for Granby in the National Assembly with regard to fire safety issues, particularly those specific to Montmagny,” underlines Marc Laurin, mayor of Montmagny.

Another mandate for Marc Laurin

During the last meeting of the UMQ Central Cities Caucus, the members of the steering committee, including Marc Laurin, were unanimously elected by their peers for another two-year term. The mayor of Montmagny will therefore continue to be part of this group of ten elected officials who represent the sixty municipalities that are members of the caucus.
