Tuesday October 22, 2024, the Indre Basin Development Union (Sabi 36) organized a training day “ flood prevention » intended for elected officials from the 77 municipalities it brings together, located on the 1,600 km² of watersheds of the Indre river.

Sabi 36 ensures the competence Management of aquatic environments and flood prevention (Gemapi). “ We do one training per yearexplains Christophe Vandaele, president of Sabi 36. It is not because you are elected municipal that you become a specialist in all areas. To make decisions, elected officials need to be informed », he emphasizes.

Alert and vigilance tools available to elected officials

The objective of this day is to “ make elected officials informed actors of what is happening, so that they can best manage development work and crisis situations », explains Christophe Vandaele.

Around twenty mayors and municipal councilors gathered in Niherne to participate in the technical morning, during which the Departmental Directorate of Territories (DDT) and the Regional Directorate of the Environment, Planning and Housing (Dreal) were intervened, in particular to present the different tools and resources to which mayors have access.

The intervention of the risk prevention center of the DDT of Indre focused on the presentation of software such as Vigicrues, or Vigicrues Flash. The first is an information service on the risk of flooding of the main rivers in . This software allows you to “warn in real time when monitored watercourses are in critical situation ».

The second software, Vigicrues Flash, is offered, by subscription, to local authorities. The latter allows “ receive an alert on your smartphone in the event of exceptional precipitation ”, which can be useful for small communities “ close to unmonitored watercourses », in order to know in advance the existence of a risk of flooding due to heavy precipitation.

Then, the elected officials were entitled to a reminder on “ crisis management organization », before the speaker from Dreal Centre-Val de offers explanations on “ analysis of the speed of propagation of floods » of the Indre, upstream and downstream of Châteauroux.

In the afternoon, participants visited the sites of watercourse restoration work carried out by the Syndicat intercommunal de la Vallée de l'Yèvre (Sivy) in Saint-Martin-d'Auxigny and Saint-Palais, in the Cher, with a view to reducing flooding phenomena.
