MORT – Alert to Malibu loses one of his own. Actor and comedian Michael Newman, who played a lifeguard in more than 150 episodes of the hit American series, has died at the age of 68, American media revealed this Tuesday, October 22.
Michael Newman died on Sunday “surrounded by friends and family”, said his close friend, director Matt Felker, to People media. The actor who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006 is said to have died from “cardiac complications” specifies the same source.
In the 1990s, Michael Newman became famous with his role as a lifeguard called Mike “Newmie” Newman between 1989 and 2001. He was the only one to play himself as a lifeguard and firefighter, he who was the only one to really be a lifeguard in real life.

After his illness was diagnosed, the actor became involved with the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which raises money to find a treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
