“Beautiful auctions” and a nice tribute: our photos from the last day of the 2024 Limousin Days in

Organized in by Beauvallet/Plainemaison Aquitaine, the Limousin Days, which began this Saturday, October 19, closed their doors this Monday evening, October 21 with the traditional auction of Limousin heifers and cows for slaughter.

Thierry Borde, with all the experience he now has of these Limousin Days, had warned well in advance of the meeting. He even repeated it again this Sunday, October 20, after a competition for “high-level” Limousin heifers and cows. “It’s going to be a tough fight at Monday’s auction,” he had been insisting for several days already.

And the general director of Plainemaison Aquitaine was right: the famous auction of Limousin beef heifers and cows, which was held this Monday, October 21 as part of the Limousin Days at the Champ-de-Juillet in Limoges, was, This year again, it was lively.

Everyone present thought they had seen a great “battle”, to use Thierry Borde’s term, with a sale at €20,000 for a cow from Gaec Moury (Corrèze), best adult cow and best animal in the competition, purchased by the store. E.Leclerc Biscarosse (Landes)? Or for the best young cow of the competition and best hind quarter, from the Fabienne Rougerie breeding (Corrèze), gone for €17,000 to the Boucherie du Limousin (Essonne) of Thierry Didierdefresse? That was without counting on this heifer from Gaec du Plessis (Indre), rewarded the day before with the special Christophe-Rochard prize, which caught the eye of many buyers.

Battle between Bretons and Savoyards

Black and white flags speckled with ermines against a mountain cow bell: this lot n°14 was contested in a good, communicative mood between Bretons from the La Porte du Golfe restaurant (Morbihan) and Savoyards. Before the latter, representatives of the Hôtel Marielle, in Val Thorens (commune of Les Belleville, Savoie), won the auction at €24,500, top price of this sale therefore.

“It’s the first time we’ve come to look for meat here in Limousin, but we like to work with quality meat, to have beautiful carcasses, beautiful pieces and that’s where we needed to be today,” testified Pierre Patin, chef de cuisine at the Hôtel Marielle.

Followed after this top pricefor the special Christophe-Rochard prize, therefore, a vibrant tribute of one minute of applause for this breeder, who died at the beginning of the year, who “marked the meat industry with his genetics and his know-how”, saluted, moved, Jean-Luc Kress.
