Ford Mustang GTD: the one everyone will want!

Unveiled a few weeks ago, the Ford Mustang GTD could well be the one everyone wants. Already 7,500 pre-orders have been received!

The Ford Mustang is THE iconic muscle car par excellence. No one will debate it. And she’s always there. The proof is that as soon as a special model is revealed, all enthusiasts snap up it. This is the case with the latest generation and its GTD version dedicated to Sport!

The Ford Mustang GTD is very popular

In just 37 days, more than 7,500 people in the United States and Canada applied to purchase the Mustang GTD. Yes, they applied but are not sure if they will be selected. And yet, this version of the muscle car costs some $325,000. But according to Ford, potential customers are rushing to the gate. This represents at least five times more interested parties than the number of examples planned by the American manufacturer. And this, without taking into account other markets, according to the Blue Oval firm.
As the brand prepares to open order books in Europe and Mexico, it announces that it wants to aim for the lap record on the “Green Hell” after its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In other words, this version aims to offer the best performance ever offered by a muscle car at the Blue Oval.
The Mustang GTD will therefore debut in June at Le Mans before participating in the 24 Hours of Spa and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Next, it will attempt to become the fastest American production car of all time on the Nürburgring. “We tested the Mustang GTD extensively in North America, including at Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway.”.
So said Greg Goodall, chief program engineer for the Mustang GTD. “All of this went into designing a car that could cover the Nürburgring in less than seven minutes. Moving onto European roads and dedicated testing sessions at the Nürburgring is the next step”. He also confirmed that a record attempt will be made immediately.

Who will be able to buy this “muscle car”?

Throughout the year, Ford announces that it will present a series of videos on the Mustang GTD. They will highlight the components and engineering that help make this vehicle what it is. It’s still unclear exactly what the final spec sheet will look like. But Ford is openly aiming for more than 800 horsepower.
This partly explains why so many people are willing to pay a huge amount of money to buy it. “With the Mustang GTD, we decided to build a road-legal racing car with the heart of a Mustang. And above all, the desire to beat the best in Europe. Since pre-orders opened to North American customers, we have seen customers respond in numbers”said Jim Owens, Mustang GTD brand director.
Applications for potential owners in Europe and Mexico will open later this year. Ford plans to make only between 300 and 700 vehicles in each of the next two years. Read everything for a total of between 600 and 1,400 Mustang GTDs.

In other words, many potential customers will be disappointed… Or relieved not to have to spend more than $320,000!
