At the end of 2021, a major accident involving a Tesla Model 3 left one dead and several seriously injured in Paris. The driver then explained that his car had accelerated on its own. The investigation seems to indicate the opposite.

On December 11, 2021, a terrible accident happened: in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, a slightly crazy Tesla Model 3 hit several cars and two pedestrians. One person was killed, 20 injured, including 3 in serious condition, the incident is of high importance. Without even having inspected the vehicle, the parent company quickly states that there was no malfunction with this Model 3 used in the G3 taxi fleet. The company subsequently decided to no longer use Teslas during the investigation. We had to wait almost three years to get the end of the story.

Tesla is not to blame

The taxi driver allegedly told the police that his vehicle had started to accelerate on its own. An obviously and fortunately extremely rare case which has affected other brands in the past. We particularly remember the Toyota “sticky pedals” affair, which led the Japanese giant to recall thousands of vehicles and conclude the deal out of court for an amount of 1.2 billion dollars. But this time, the vehicle would have nothing to do with it. Tesla was quickly sure of its move, and justice should rule in favor of the American manufacturer. According to our colleagues from Le Parisien, the investigation showed the taxi driver’s contradictory versions. The technical expertise did not identify any technical problems with the electric sedan. The fault would therefore be human. The driver was charged with “manslaughter and unintentional injury by land motor vehicle”.
