The firefighters intervened at midday this Saturday, October 19, rue Sainte-Claire in for “strong odors” of gas.

This Saturday, October 19, the building at 39 rue Sainte-Claire in Limoges was evacuated shortly after 11 a.m., after strong smells of gas.

Around twenty firefighters went to the site to carry out initial surveys and evacuate the scene safely.

If some residents mention “very strong smells of gas”, “none of the evacuated residents have health problems”, assures Lieutenant Eric Grodzki of Sdis 87.

Analyzes were carried out on site. Readings showed high levels of carbon monoxide, particularly in the corridors, but when GRDF cut off the gas in the building, the readings went back to zero.

According to Sdis 87, “the problem would come from a poorly adjusted boiler or poor combustion”.

GRDF must now find the origin of the problem, and will check all the installations in the building this Saturday before the boilers are turned back on.

All gathered in the Vival supermarket on the street corner, the 21 people present at the time of the incident spoke with the firefighters to debrief the situation and raise awareness about carbon monoxide.

At 1:15 p.m., everyone was taken home by emergency services.
