The fifteenth episode of the RTS podcast “Swiss Crimes” tells how four people were killed in a house in Rupperswil (AG) in December 2015. This crime horrified the whole country and was the subject of a difficult and careful investigation. .

On December 21, 2015, four bodies emerged from a burning villa in Rupperswil in the canton of Aargau. The burned bodies were tied with ties and the emergency services mobilized on site quickly noted that the death had been caused by a bladed weapon.

The news spread and all of Switzerland was horrified to learn that a mother, her two sons aged 19 and 13, as well as the friend of the eldest (21 years old) had their throats slit, then doused with liquid. flammable, before being set on fire by the killer, to erase his traces.

Difficult investigation

The police quickly launched an appeal for witnesses and published the photo of the mother, withdrawing money from the bank shortly before her death. A large reward of 100,000 francs is then offered to anyone who helps solve the mystery. But the investigation stalled for many months.

Interviewed in this episode, the director of the School of Criminal Sciences at the University of Lausanne Christophe Champod highlights how the police exploited traces of several types. They combined both physical traces (fingerprints, DNA) and digital traces (telephone data, computer) to identify the culprit.
