Haute-Loire goes into orange rain-flood vigilance with a high risk of flooding

The Haute- department has been placed on orange “rain/flood” alert since 6 a.m. Vigilance is valid for the whole day.

The current rain-storm episode requires particular attention due to the heavy accumulations of rain over the day in the departments of Loire and Haute-Loire.

In the east of Haute-Loire, the disturbance which remains this morning, combined with the rain-stormy passage at the end of the day, will bring the accumulations to 100-110 mm locally.

All of this precipitation can have consequences in terms of runoff, and cause reactions in watercourses.

Raw orange vigilance on the Lignon and the Loire

The Lignon Velay section is placed on orange “flood” alert, just like the “Loire vellave”. “Haut-Allier” and “Allier brivadois” are on yellow alert for the same risk of flooding.

The Cévennes episode that began on Wednesday led to an initial reaction on the Loire axis and its tributaries, notably with relatively high rainfall intensities.

After a calm in the evening which allowed the level of the Lignon to stabilize, precipitation resumed this night. The flood level of May 2013 (1.93 m), November 2008 (3.4 m) and December 2003 (3.27 m) was exceeded in Chambon-sur-Lignon with a height of 3.89 m at 6 h 55. The rains expected for the day will further increase the water level locally.
