A four-storey building collapsed on itself in a spectacular manner on Friday October 18 in the early evening in Béchar. In a matter of seconds, it turned into a pile of rubble. According to the wilaya, no victims were recorded in this extremely rare collapse.
Luckily, the residents of this building dating from 2016 were already outside.
According to the wilaya of Béchar, cracks appeared in the building of the 770-unit housing complex, which required the evacuation of its occupants on Friday morning. Civil Protection says the evacuation operation was launched on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
« After the cracks appeared, a technical assessment concluded that the building could collapse at any moment. The wali then ordered the evacuation of the occupants of the building », Explains the wilaya of Béchar in a press release published Friday evening.

Immediately after this spectacular collapse, the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi held a meeting with the parties concerned.
According to the ministry, it was the residents of the building who alerted the Béchar Real Estate Development Office (OPGI) on Friday to the presence of cracks on the building’s posts.
A team of technicians from the CTC (Technical Construction Control) was urgently dispatched to the site for an inspection.
The building’s expertise concluded that the situation could deteriorate quickly. Immediately, instructions were given on the need to evacuate the residents of two buildings, the one with the cracks and the adjoining one, according to the same source. In total, 32 families were evacuated.
The minister requested the filing of a complaint against X as soon as the technical expertise on the collapse of this building was completed.
