The “full hybrid” is what we used to call an HEV or hybrid. No recharging, but a battery and an electrical system which are managed by electronics and make it possible to reduce consumption while increasing driving pleasure with interesting returns.

Here, the MG3 Hybrid+ offers 195 horsepower in cumulative power, which is starting to cause problems in a Clio type city car. 0 to 100 km/h is done in 8 seconds and 80-120 km/h restart is done in 5 seconds. This promises, on paper, a vehicle with pleasant driving pleasure. It remains to be seen the finishes and long-term durability. The MG3 Hybrid+ in “Standard” finish already includes quite a bit of equipment and will undoubtedly be sufficient for many buyers:

  • Automatic lights with LED visual signature
  • 7” digital counter
  • 10.25” touchscreen Infotainment screen with Android Auto/CarPlay connectivity, iSMART Lite and integrated navigation with 4HP
  • 4 electric windows

The MG3 Hybrid+ dethrones the benchmark, the Clio E-Tech Full Hybrid

The Standard finish is available in the MG Motor France network at €19,990! Yes yes €19,990 for a full hybrid. For comparison, a basic Clio with the SCe 65 hp is already €18,700, the TCe 90 at €19,700 in “Evolution”. The E-Tech full hybrid 145 version costs €23,900. 4,000 € difference which will either allow you to have a 20% lower budget, or to add the options you want.

With its proposal, the most accessible full hybrid city car in France, MG Motor is once again hitting hard. Did the State pull the rug out from under them a bit by cutting the bonus for electric models? No problem, the brand is back with a hybrid proposition that stands out. Especially since with 195 horsepower, the MG3 is approved at 4.4 l/100 km or 100 g/km and escapes the penalty.

On the practical side, the trunk is 293 liters and MG claims that its noise level “becomes a benchmark” in its category. To be judged on the evidence. And even when you add lots of equipment, this MG3 Hybrid+ breaks prices. €23,490 for the Luxury finish which is even less expensive than the Clio (with hubcaps and without this equipment Editor’s note) considered until now to be the hybrid city car reference on the market compared to a Peugeot 208 Hybrid 100 which starts at €23,550 while being less mechanically interesting.

They are strong at MG!

In addition, the MG3 is in European style standards. Gone is the flashy chrome styling of the early days of the “new” MG. Here it’s sober, with a little design dynamicoaggressive, and a completely standard interior (without any real visual roughness). Note that the pretty “Como blue” paint in the photos is €650 extra unlike the French ones which are standard in Valencia Orange (Clio) or Agueda Yellow (208).

The mid-level “Comfort” trim level adds the following:

  • Keyless start
  • 16” alloy wheels
  • 6 Speakers
  • Back windshield wiper
  • Electric and heated exterior mirrors

The Comfort finish is priced at €21,490.

The high-end “Luxury” finish offers a level of equipment worthy of higher segments with as standard:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross Traffic Alert
  • 360° camera
  • 100% LED headlights
  • Rain sensor
  • Keyless access and starting
  • Heated front seats and leatherette/cloth upholstery
  • Heated microfiber leather steering wheel

The Luxury finish is priced at €23,490.

Of the 7 shades available, “Dover White” is standard, the other metallic paints cost €650: Pebble Black, Pastel Yellow, Como Blue, Diamond Red, Cosmic Silver and Hampstead Grey. The MG3 Hybrid+ has a 1.5 liter 102 hp thermal engine (Atkinson cycle), and a 136 hp (100 kW) electric motor.
