The Boukherma brothers return with “Their children after them”, an adaptation of the novel by Nicolas Mathieu, winner of the 2018 Prix Goncourt.

Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma were able, in three feature films, to establish the codes of a new French genre cinema. After Willy 1er (2016), Teddy (2021) et The Year of the Shark (2022), the duo changes register, adapting the 2018 Prix Goncourt by Nicolas Mathieu, Their children after them.

The latter tells the story of Anthony (played here by Paul Kircher), a teenager who is bored in his countryside, in full deindustrialization, in the 1990s. One summer, he meets Steph, whose he falls in love. It was during an evening where he borrowed his father’s motorcycle to go find his beloved that Anthony’s life changed: the next morning, the motorcycle disappeared. This social drama, divided into four periods, explores the lives of these adolescents and the working-class conditions from which their parents already came.
