This is a great project that could see the light of day in the Pyrénées-Orientales. This Friday October 18, the French stylist Mossi Traore was visiting Perpignan, in the new LCS group factory. Accompanied by local economic players, this famous Parisian fashion designer affirmed his desire to create a sewing school on the territory.

Soon a sewing school in Perpignan?

Founder of a high-end ready-to-wear brand that shows at Fashion Week, Mossi Traoré is a big name in French fashion. A few years ago, the latter also created “Alix Workshops”an inclusive sewing school, in Val-de-.

Since then, the 39-year-old stylist has wanted extend its training “open to all”. And it is in the Pyrénées-Orientales that he could soon set his sights. After a meeting with elected officials from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry six months ago in Paris, Mossi Traoré was in Perpignan this week.

“Very quickly, there was the desire to take crafts of art and excellence in your territory,” the creator announces straight away.

“A school accessible to all”

“Fashion schools are very expensive. Few people have access to it. My project was not to create a school that recruits through the portfolio, but rather au merit, talent. A school accessible to all. I wanted to break the fashion codes, to rush things a little,” declares the man who is now supported in his approach by the house of Chanel.

After several projects abroad, in developing countries, “we want to study the feasibility of the thing in the Pyrénées-Orientales,” says Mossi Traoré. “I like when projects are rich in common sense. If we can give the chance to young people in your area, to people who are far from employment or even to those who are changing their careers…” he continues. The stylist reaffirms his will:

The challenge today will be to sit around the table and talk with the different training stakeholders, to identify the needs of the territory and carry out a project which will bring positive effects for companies, institutions. I hope we will all be able to work together.

A project supported by stakeholders and the State

Founder of LCS Groupe, a Catalan company specializing in personalization and fabrication de textileNicolas Gomarir welcomes this opportunity: “There are needs in the design professions. And there is a strong desire to develop the textile sector, to attract talent and businesses,” underlines the business manager, who is considering the simultaneous creation of a factory-workshop within his production site.

“This project has a vocation on employment, on second chances. We have a territory with a lot of desire, capacities, skills. This project is one of those that ticks all the boxes. I would be delighted to host this school. I think that the entire territory will respond favorably,” continues Laurent Gauze, president of the CCI of Pyrénées-Orientales.

For her part, Nathalie Vitrat, sub-prefect responsible for equal opportunities, confirms the State’s interest. “We can only help and support you, to find premises and create a network so that this project benefits everyone.” If the latter comes to fruition, the future sewing school is expected in 2025 or 2026.
