Fire in a hangar outside Albi: six old cars burned, firefighters and police are on site

The Tarn fire and rescue service (SDIS 81) was alerted this Monday, May 20 at the beginning of the afternoon of a release of smoke at a building located on route de Teillet, at the exit of Albi. The first firefighters on scene noticed that the room was completely filled with smoke. More than twenty old vehicles were stored inside. Their action made it possible to limit the spread of the fire to only six of them, before the arrival of reinforcements.

Major resources were mobilized by SDIS 81: around thirty firefighters in total, from the rescue centers of Albi, Saint-Juéry and Réalmont, as well as 3 fire vans, a large ladder, means of water supply, a drone and a command post.

A portion of the Teillet road was cut off to traffic by the police while emergency services intervened. No casualties were reported: no one was inside the building at the time. But the origin and circumstances of the fire remain to be determined. Investigators from the Albi police station and a technician from the scientific and technical police went to the site in the afternoon. Enedis agents were also present to isolate the building, an electrical line passing close to the facade.
