After the Road World Championshipsthen two from Gravel, it’s the turn of Track Worlds to take place this week. After twice thenScotland in 2023, it is Denmark and the city of Ballerup which welcome the competition and the best track riders in the world until Sunday to award the global titles in the different categories. And the first day took place this Wednesday evening, with three finals and therefore as many gold medals to be distributed during the evening during the men’s and women’s team speed events, but also that of the women’s scratch. And dyears the latter, for his very first participation to Worldson track, Lorenand Wiebes a fhave entry fly ! DAlready a three-time national champion in the discipline, the Dutchwoman won her first rainbow jersey at the age of 25… on the track.

Harrie Lavreysen equals Arnaud Tournant’s record!

In the last lap, the best sprinter in the world showed her usual power and speed to far outpace the reigning world champion, the American Jennifer Valentewhile the bronze went to the New Zealander Ally Wollaston. The only French woman involved, Marion Borras was only able to take 13th place (out of 24) on the line. The other event of the evening was the men’s team sprint title of the Netherlands and therefore of the super star Harrie Lavreysen. Easily winner of the Australians in the final (42.046 against 42.673) in the company of Roy van den Berg and of Jeffrey Hooglandthe undisputed king of sprinting won a 14th world title at the age of 27, thus equaling the record of a certain… Arnaud Tournant.

A record that the Frenchman will certainly cede to the five-time Olympic champion very soon, the latter still having three opportunities to increase his total this week. Japan beat Great Britain in the bronze medal match. The trio of the French team composed of Ryan Helal, Sébastien Vigier et Melvin Landerneau finished 5th after failing to qualify for the finals. Among the women, it was the British who dominated this team sprint tournament by beating the Netherlands in the final, while Australia took bronze against Germany in the small final.
