There is no real doubt: one day or another, Romelu Lukaku will return as a player to Sporting Anderlecht. And the day it happens, it won’t be to rest on its laurels.

This week, Romelu Lukaku gave a long interview to the podcast Friends of Sportin which he notably returned to the disappointments of the World Cup and the Euro (read here) as well as the Thibaut Courtois case, in particular (here).

In this interview, the top scorer in the history of the Devils also spoke about a possible return to Sporting Anderlecht, a hope that he has held in the hearts of supporters for many years now.

“It will happen one day or another. And I will not come back diminished. I have a lot of respect for Simon Mignolet. When you look at how he came back, it’s really what we have to do.”

I will not come back diminished, we will have to win the title”

“When I’m back, people won’t think I’m in decline. I’ll stay competitive. If we lose twice, I’ll be very upset. We have to become champions, that’s the mentality I grew up with in Anderlecht.”

The most successful club in Belgium has had to do without the coronation for far too long seasons. “The club knows that we have to come back to it and that we must not be afraid to say it. It’s not being a big mouth, what’s wrong with showing your ambitions?” concluded Romelu Lukaku who we should therefore see again, in not so long, on the Belgian lawns.
