Burkina Faso shines again on the international scene. On Monday October 14, 2024, Thierry Bayala, originally from this country, won the gold medal in the 80-85 kilo category, during the bodybuilding world championships organized in Spain. This prestigious competition, under the aegis of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IPBB), brings together athletes from 200 countries.

With this victory, Thierry Bayala follows in the footsteps of another famous Burkinabé, Iron Biby, crowned “the strongest man in the world” after lifting an impressive 231 kilos in Birmingham last September. Today, it is Bayala who is the pride of Burkina Faso by becoming “the most muscular man in the world”, after his resounding victory in Madrid.

New era for bodybuilding in Burkina Faso

Originally from Bonyolo, a village near Réo in west-central Burkina Faso, Thierry Bayala took the steps one by one that took him to the top of world bodybuilding. After several attempts where he was vice-champion, he finally won the coveted title and established himself as the undisputed master of the discipline.

In addition to his career in bodybuilding, Thierry Bayala is also a talented basketball player. Affiliated with the French Bodybuilding Federation, he expressed his gratitude to his supporters via his Facebook page. He thanked them for their unwavering support throughout his journey to gold.

In addition to his victory at the world championships, Thierry Bayala also won another prestigious trophy: the Arnold Classic, a competition in tribute to bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger. A double triumph which confirms his status as a rising star of world sport. In the process, he opened a new era for bodybuilding in Burkina Faso.
