A Lake Geneva derby will be on the program for the round of 16 of the Champions League next month. Lausanne, 3rd in the regular season, will indeed find the defending champion Geneva (13th).
Lausanne finished the preliminary phase in 3rd place behind the Swedes of Färjestad (1st with 17 points) and Zurich, who won 5-1 in Klagenfurt with a reshuffled team. The “Z” is ahead of the Vaudois thanks to a better goal difference.
The Zurich residents, as well as the Fribourgers, however had to wait until the last moments of this preliminary phase to know their future opponents. The Swiss champion will finally face the Germans of Straubing, while Friborg (5th in the regular season) will battle it out with the Swedes of Växjö.
