A dramatic traffic accident occurred this Tuesday, October 15 around 3:45 p.m. on the departmental road 630 at the exit of Thun-Saint-Martin. A car collided with a heavy goods vehicle. Around fifteen firefighters from Denain, Iwuy and Douchy-les-Mines were mobilized, as well as the SMUR from Cambrai. The SAMU helicopter landed near the scene of the collision before leaving empty around 4:30 p.m.
Traffic cut off
A woman, aged around forty, was trapped and in cardio-respiratory arrest in the passenger compartment of the car, indicates the Northern departmental fire and rescue service. Firefighters carried out an emergency extrication, then began resuscitation attempts. Without success. The victim was declared dead by a doctor from SMUR Cambrai.
At the same time, the driver of the heavy goods vehicle and two witnesses were treated, shocked, by the firefighters, but their condition did not require transport. Traffic was reopened around 6:15 p.m., after the body had been taken care of and the vehicles had been removed.
The Cambrai public prosecutor’s office did not respond to our requests.
