It was last Friday, October 11, that the municipality of Saint-Michel-du-Squatec inaugurated its new Charles-Arsenault intergenerational park.

This park, located in the heart of the village, at 112, rue Saint-Joseph next to the church, represents a new living space dedicated to all ages, integrating a public market, play areas for children and educational modules. outdoor training. It represents a real asset for the entire community and promotes exchanges and well-being.

The park required investments of $350,000, including $100,000 from the government of Quebec and another $100,000 from the MRC du Témiscouata. In addition, the Caisses Desjardins du Témiscouata participated in the project for a sum of 15,000 $.

Work began in 2023 and was completed recently. A long-term project which was carried out largely by municipal employees, which is the great pride of the mayor, Bruno Malenfant.

A tribute to Charles Arsenault

Dr. Charles Arsenault died at the age of 84 on May 29, 2016. The park is named after the doctor, originally from Gaspésie and who arrived at Squatec to work there after obtaining his medical degree. . He was a doctor who marked the history of Squatec, because he was very close to his patients and always available for them day and night. Pioneer of Squatec hospital, active member of his community, involved in sector choirs, in various organizations and sports clubs.

Mayor Bruno Malenfant specifies that Doctor Arsenault has delivered more than 5,000 women.

Finally, Mr. Malenfant emphasizes that the family of Doctor Arsenault, present at the inauguration last Friday, was greatly touched by this honor for a father devoted to his community.
